FAQ
Fire door installation — common questions
Do you install fire doors as well as supply them?
Yes — we offer full supply-and-install across mainland UK through our sister company C&C Fire Prevention Ltd. Installers hold FIRAS or BM TRADA certification, work to BS 8214, and supply third-party certified installation documentation suitable for HMO licensing, CQC compliance, and the Building Safety Act golden thread.
How long does fire door installation take?
A single fire door fit (door, frame, ironmongery, seals) typically takes 2-3 hours per door for a competent installer. Larger projects with multiple doors are scheduled in batches — for instance, an HMO conversion with 8-10 fire doors is usually completed in 2-3 working days. Sites with restricted access or complex existing carpentry may take longer.
What certification do your installers have?
Our installation team is certified under the FIRAS Fire Door Installer Scheme and BM TRADA Q-Mark. Both are UKAS-accredited third-party certification schemes recognised by the Building Safety Regulator, the National Fire Chiefs Council, and most freeholders and managing agents. We supply third-party certified installation documentation as standard with every install.
Can I install fire doors myself?
There is no blanket legal requirement to use a certified installer, but incorrect installation — wrong gaps, missing seals, wrong hinges, or wedged-out frames — completely invalidates the door's fire performance and certification. In buildings regulated under the Building Safety Act 2022 (above 11 metres), competent and certified installation is effectively mandatory. We strongly recommend a FIRAS or BM TRADA installer for any fire-rated work.
Do you remove and dispose of old fire doors?
Yes — we remove existing doors as part of the installation service and dispose of them responsibly through licensed waste carriers. Disposal is included in the install quote unless specified otherwise. If you want the existing doors kept on site (for example, for evidence in a defect claim), tell us at the quote stage and we'll arrange accordingly.
What areas do you cover for installation?
We install across mainland England, Wales, and southern Scotland. Travel is included in the quote for jobs within 60 miles of our installation base; longer-distance projects (50+ doors) usually justify the additional travel cost on their own. Get in touch with your postcode and project size for a tailored quote.
