The FDR Single Door External Hardwood FD60 Fire Door Frame is a FD60-rated flush external fire door supplied as a single-leaf fire door, faced in Hardwood. As a FD60 door it is built to resist the passage of fire for 60 minutes — the integrity period defined by the UK and European fire-door test standards, BS 476: Part 22 and BS EN 1634-1.

FD60 fire performance

FD60 denotes 60 minutes of fire resistance, achieved by a dense solid core around 54mm thick. External fire doors combine that fire-resistance rating with weather resistance, suiting flat entrance doors and communal-area openings exposed to the elements. For the rating to perform as tested, the doorset must be hung with compatible intumescent seals and certified ironmongery, and kept in good working order.

Flush (solid) construction

This is a flush door with a solid, unglazed face — the simplest and most robust configuration, used wherever a vision panel isn't required. Flush fire doors suit flat entrances, plant and store rooms, and any opening where privacy or a clean face is preferred over sightlines.

Paint-grade plywood face

The leaf has a paint-grade plywood face: a smooth, knot-free surface engineered to be decorated on site. It primes and paints cleanly for a flat, even finish in any colour, and is the most cost-effective way to specify a certified fire door at volume — flat entrances, HMOs, communal corridors and commercial fit-outs where doors are painted rather than shown as natural timber. Whichever face you choose, the FD60 fire-resisting core is identical — the finish is cosmetic and does not change the door's tested fire performance. Available in Hardwood — choose the finish that matches your scheme at the point of order. Supplied in standard stock sizes, ready to hang.

Built for external openings

Specified for exposed positions — block and flat entrance doors, communal exits and other openings onto the outside — an external fire door has to manage the weather as well as fire. That means a suitable threshold or cill, weatherseals and drainage detailing to keep water out, working alongside the intumescent and cold-smoke seals that do the fire-and-smoke job. Where an external door is also a flat front door in a block, post-Grenfell guidance and the Building Safety Act 2022 treat its fire and smoke performance (typically FD60S) as safety-critical, so certification and correct installation matter as much as the weather detailing.

Where this door is used

FD60 doors are specified where a longer 60-minute period is required — between higher-hazard areas, basements, plant and riser rooms, in many commercial and industrial settings, and wherever a fire strategy or building control officer calls for FD60 rather than FD30. The longer rating comes from a heavier, thicker core, so FD60 doorsets are weightier and need hinges and a closer rated for the load. If you are unsure which rating your project needs, your fire risk assessment or building control officer will specify it.

Certification & documentation

Every door we supply is manufactured to resist fire for 60 minutes and tested to the recognised standards BS 476: Part 22 and BS EN 1634-1. It is supplied with its manufacturer Declaration of Performance (DoP) and test certificate, and — where the product line carries it — third-party CERTIFIRE or BWF-CERTIFIRE certification: the documentary evidence Building Control and the Building Safety Regulator expect for the golden thread. Keep that paperwork on file for the lifetime of the building.

Installation, frames & smoke seals

For its FD60 rating to perform, this door must be hung in a compatible certified frame with the correct intumescent and, where required, cold-smoke seals, and gaps of 2–4mm maintained around the leaf. Most FD60 doors in residential and communal settings are specified as FD60S — the “S” denoting smoke seals. We can supply the matching frame and certified ironmongery, and install to BS 8214 through our FIRAS and BM TRADA Q-Mark certified fitting teams.

Frequently asked questions

Is the FDR Single Door External Hardwood FD60 Fire Door Frame a certified fire door?

Yes. Like every door we supply, it is manufactured to resist fire for 60 minutes and tested to BS 476: Part 22 and BS EN 1634-1, and is supplied with its Declaration of Performance and test certificate (with third-party CERTIFIRE / BWF-CERTIFIRE certification where the product line carries it). See our fire door certification guide for how to verify the evidence on any certified door.

Does this door come with smoke seals?

Most FD60 doors for residential and communal use are specified as FD60S — the “S” denotes cold-smoke seals, which are required at flat entrance doors and most internal fire doors in residential buildings. We can supply the door with the correct intumescent and smoke seals for your application; let us know at the quote stage if you need a configuration without smoke seals.

What sizes does this door come in?

It is supplied in 1 stock size: FD60 fire rated – to suit single door (MAX overall 996x2195) (mm). If your opening doesn’t match a stock size, we also manufacture this door range made to measure.

How long is delivery?

Lead time is typically 2–3 weeks from order confirmation. Doors are delivered on a pallet by dedicated freight across mainland UK; someone should be available to receive and help unload the delivery.
